Here’s what went wrong…

A car, irresponsibly parked at a corner, severely limited his visibility.

Things escalated quickly.

As the driver attempted to steer his Ford Transit around the poorly parked vehicle, a car suddenly emerged from a side street.

It cut across his path, giving him little time to react.

Now, here’s the kicker…

In an effort to avoid a collision, the van driver made a sudden maneuver.

He felt the van losing its balance.

Before he knew it, the vehicle was tipping over.

But amidst the chaos, help was at hand.

A Not-So-Happy Ending: Staffordshire’s Dangerous Roads

Now let’s shift gears.

In another incident, this time in Staffordshire, a van driver wasn’t so lucky.

Here’s the story…

Council workers were out doing their usual maintenance work, repairing and cleaning roadside gullies.

This is a crucial job, especially in areas prone to flooding.

But then something unexpected happened.

A van driver, towing a trailer, became impatient with the maintenance crew’s road signs and warnings.

Here’s where things took a turn.

Rather than wait, the van driver decided to ignore the warnings.

He mounted the pavement, dangerously driving around the workers, almost causing an accident.

And it gets worse…

The entire reckless event was caught on a dashcam, which captured the van driver’s dangerous behaviour.

Not surprisingly, this footage was handed over to the police.

This is the sort of incident that not only endangers lives but also leads to skyrocketing van insurance premiums.

Staffordshire council later revealed that this type of reckless behaviour is becoming alarmingly common.

Over the past year, they’ve recorded more than 500 incidents where road workers have been verbally abused, ignored, or endangered by drivers.

Let that sink in.

How Reckless Driving Increases Van Insurance Costs

Now, here’s the bottom line…

Reckless behaviour on the roads doesn’t just put lives at risk.

It also has a direct impact on the cost of van insurance.

But why is that?

Insurance companies view reckless driving as high-risk behaviour.

And what happens when insurers perceive higher risk?

You guessed it…

Premiums go up.

That’s right.

Incidents like the one in Staffordshire are exactly why we’ve seen such an increase in van insurance premiums across the UK.

If you drive recklessly, you’re not only putting others in danger.

You’re also making insurance more expensive for everyone else.

So, here’s what you can do.

Take extra care on the roads.

Be patient.

Follow the rules.

And most importantly, drive safely.

Being considerate on the roads is not just a courtesy—it’s a responsibility.

Van drivers, especially those working long hours or under pressure, can sometimes rush or take risks.

But here’s the thing…

Impatience and reckless behaviour lead to accidents.

And accidents drive up van insurance costs for everyone.

So what’s the solution?

Take your time.

Be patient with road workers, other drivers, and pedestrians.

Most importantly, ensure your van insurance policy is up to date.

Not only will this protect you in the event of an accident, but it could also save you money in the long run.

Why Businesses Are Still Holding Onto Diesel Vans

Why Are Some Businesses Holding Onto Diesel Vans?

In a previous post, we discussed the shift to electric vans.

But it appears that the transition isn’t happening as fast as expected.

Many businesses operating fleets are holding onto their diesel vans for as long as possible.

But why?

Why Not Electric Vehicles (EVs)?

Some companies claim they can’t fully adopt electric vans just yet.

Why?

EVs need to be charged during long trips.

This can cause major disruptions for businesses that rely on tight schedules.

Imagine needing to plan each route carefully, knowing where the charge points are.

There are about 42,000 charging stations across 15,000 locations in the UK.

That sounds like a lot, but it’s not always enough.

If a driver is traveling across the country, they might need four full charges—possibly more.

Rural areas?

The situation worsens, with fewer charging stations available.

Now picture the logistical nightmare that fleet managers must face.

Caught in the Middle

Fleet owners know they have to go green.

They recognise the push for sustainability.

Yet, they feel stuck.

Right now, businesses face limited options for a seamless transition.

What can they do?

Diesel Until the End?

One solution might be keeping a small fleet of diesel vans.

They would reserve these for long-haul jobs.

But there’s a catch.

New petrol or diesel vans won’t be available for purchase after 2030.

Only second-hand options will exist.

They will still sell fuel, but it won’t come cheap.

Maintenance costs will rise, too.

Still, many businesses are hanging onto their diesel vans, hoping for cheaper EV alternatives down the line.

Fossil Fuels or Bust?

It’s not that businesses don’t want to embrace cleaner energy.

They do.

But they have to remain practical to stay in business.

Survey Insights: What Are Vans Used For?

A 2020 survey revealed some interesting data.

Vans are primarily used for transporting equipment, tools, and materials.

The next most common use? Delivering and collecting goods.

And here’s another insight:

Most businesses purchase new vans.

However, privately owned vans are typically bought second-hand—82% of them, in fact.

The Future of Diesel Vans

Diesel vans won’t disappear overnight.

They’ll still be around for a while.

But remember, your van—whether new or used—needs insurance.

So why not find the best and cheapest van insurance rates today?

It’s easy.

Just start by filling out this simple 3-minute form.

You’ll be on your way to great savings in no time.

Don’t Wait Too Long

The shift to electric might be slower than expected.

But it’s coming.

And sooner or later, you’ll have to decide:

Will you go electric or stick with diesel for as long as possible?

The choice is yours—just make sure you’re ready.

White Van Men On Tour Get GREEN LIGHT

Rage, discontent, and anger. These are all words that could have described your average white van man after Brexit happens.

Especially those white van owners who like to go “on tour.” Off they go, North, South, East, and West. Driving in their vans to go to far away lands, for business and pleasure.

It was thought that Brexit might have put a halt to these regular jaunts. A big RED LIGHT was expected to be staring each and every white van owner in the face, and, as we all know, when white van men are hindered in some way then the result is usually…all out destruction.

Initially, experts predicted that UK van insurance would no longer be valid on the roads of our European neighbours

That means if a British white van just wanted to go for a casual drive in the French countryside, then it would quickly be scanned by French Police.

“Monsieur..Monsieur..pas de taxes” they would be shouting.

A night in French prison would no doubt be in store for the white van man, which would probably push them to the brink.

Fortunately, this is not going to happen, due to the fact that it’s just been announced that UK van insurance will be accepted in the EU after Brexit has happened.

If you are stopped on the roads of France, Germany, Spain, or Rome…

Then all you need to do is show them Cheap Van Insurance on your smartphone…

and they will instantly leave you alone.

“It’s okay, I’m with CVI,” you say.

“Danke,” the German traffic police would say after they pulled you over on the Autobahn.

No fuss, no hassle, and no rage. Just a GREEN LIGHT for every white van owner in the country to go “on tour” and not get in any bother.

It could have been a lot different though. A Green card system had been proposed by European chiefs and an extra £10 fee to get European van insurance for UK drivers.

“Hola, tarjeta verde por favor ” the Spanish Police would say after pulling over the traditional UK white Ford Transit van.

“You what mate?” the white van driver would say…getting a bit hot under the collar.

“Tarjeta verde… AHORA!!“” the Spanish police would demand.

Who knows what would happen after that? We all know how white van men have, in the past, been unleashed and unchained, to the point where car doors have been ripped clean off.

Right now everybody is friends, and our white van drivers can move forward to the continent with a good mood and CVI on their phone.

Admiral Van Insurance WARNING: April 2018

If you get your van insurance from Admiral then this message could be the most important you have ever read? Keep reading to discover more…

As regular readers of CVI will be aware, ourselves and Admiral are really good buddies. They are on our “hotlist” of recommended van insurance companies and regularly feature in the list of companies that offer you a quote after filling in our 3 minute form.

The relationship between ourselves and Admiral is as strong as ever…although could the honeymoon period be about to come crashing down? Keep reading…

So, if you are already a customer of Admiral then you might be wondering why you are being WARNED, as of right now…in April 2018? It’s because you might have been double charged for your van insurance.

We already know that van insurance is expensive in the UK right now, especially if you live in big cities such as London. Nobody can afford to get double charged!

That is what happened though, as it recently came to light that Admiral double charged hundreds of their customers last month. This includes van insurance customers (YOU).

If you are a van insurance customer with Admiral then I recommend you check your bank account right away and make sure they haven’t taken out twice as much as they should.

It was an innocent mistake of course, as Admiral are one of the most trustworthy van insurance companies in the UK who have served millions of satisfied customers over the years.

Sometimes, these glitches just happen though. An error in the system. “Blame the robots,” is what I say.

As you would expect, Admiral are working hard to rectify the situation, and are saying that anyone who was double charged for their van insurance in March, won’t be charged in April. Once that happens then everyone is friends again.

With that being said, I would advise all Admiral van insurance customers to check their bank account in April 2018, just to make sure there are no more double charges.

However, be rest assured that if you do get double charged by Admiral then you can expect one of their customer service team to contact you right away.

Don’t worry though, because I reckon that Admiral have now got all of this sorted out and we won’t be hearing anything else about their van insurance customers being overcharged.

That is why I advise every CVI user to feel confident about choosing Admiral van insurance if they happen to be one of the best quotes you receive.

Make sure you fill out our 3 minute form first. Don’t go directly to the Admiral website because you want to make them compete against all of the other van insurance companies for your business.

Kind of like in the days of the Gladiators, where the warriors of Ancient Rome would march into the collesium for a no holds barred old fashioned fight.

That is what happens when you use Cheap Van Insurance, and that is why they call us “The Nations Favourite.”

Most Expensive Van Insurance? The Award Goes to…

Wondering which place has the most expensive van insurance in the UK? A recent survey has now given us the answer, and it isn’t surprising.

Before I reveal the answer, and to give you some frame of reference, let me tell you what the average cost of van insurance is right now in the UK…£1500 approximately.

Not exactly cheap is it, but van drivers have to pay those kind of figures because as we all know, it is a legal requirement to insure your van. Ignore that and you could find yourself with a fine, points on your license, a driving ban, and even in prison.

So where is the most expensive van insurance? East London to be exact, where the survey found the average price to be nearly £2000. Yes you read that right.

Drivers in East London are paying, on average, £2000 for insurance, and if reports are true, this could soon become even more expensive once new compensation laws are introduced by the government.

Van crime is becoming more of a problem of course, and London is one of those areas where van break-ins are a daily occurrence. Sure, this kind of crime can happen anywhere (and it does), it’s just that London seems to get it more.

There are many factors that determine how much you are going to pay for van insurance, such as age and experience of the driver, make and model of the van, where it is parked overnight…and so on.

It goes without saying that if you are a young driver in East London who wants van insurance then you are probably going to be paying well over £2000. Maybe even over £3000.

What can you do to get van insurance that isn’t quite as expensive? My advice is simple…use a comparison website. It really is all you have to do.

Most van drivers don’t do this however, and instead just stick with the same company year after year, or they try and compare by only going to a few different companies.

When you use a comparison website, it automatically sends your details to over 100 companies, so as you can imagine, it’s easy to get a cheap quote…even if you live in East London or somewhere else with expensive van insurance.

Don’t just take my word for it. Give it a try for yourself. It only takes around 3 minutes to enter some basic details and then you start getting quotes right away.

Man Admits Driving Without Van Insurance

A man in Lancashire was spared a prison sentence when he admitted to driving his van without any kind of insurance.

Not usually something they send you to prison for anyway you might be thinking, but when you consider he was also a disqualified driver then it becomes a more serious offence.

The man, who is 34, plead guilty in a court of law for not having a driving license and not having van insurance, although the judge decided not to send him to prison.

Instead, he got a suspended 8 week sentence, which means if he commits an offence again, especially driving a van without insurance, then he will be sent to prison for around 2 months. Not only that, but he also has to follow a 6 week curfew which does not allow him to leave the house between 8pm and 6am.

He was also given a 12 month driving ban, had 6 points put onto his license, given a 6 month supervision requirement and had to pay costs that came to £200.

The sentence was handed out because the man had only recently been banned from driving, and had significant previous offences.

It just goes to show you that driving without van insurance is something that can get you into a lot of trouble. Even if you don’t have any previous offences or a history of being in trouble with the law, if you get caught driving without insurance then the Police will not be very impressed.

You could find yourself in a lot of trouble, and may even have to go to court. As we’ve just seen, a prison sentence is unlikely, but you could easily get a suspended sentence, as well as fines.

My advice is simple…always make sure you get van insurance, and never drive without it. I’m hearing a lot of complaints recently about how “insurance is so expensive” and “I don’t want to pay it anymore,” but in reality you don’t have any choice.

It is UK law that your van must be insured, so if you don’t have a policy right now you must do it right away.

Sure, van insurance is getting more expensive, but if you shop around then you might be surprised to find out exactly how cheap it can be.

The best way to do this is by using a van insurance comparison website so you can have your details sent off to all the major insurance companies, and then within a few minutes you get all the quotes right there in front of you.

Some people have reported saving hundreds of pounds on their van insurance by doing this, so in my opinion, anyone who wants cheaper insurance should give it a try.

Step 1

Complete your quick and easy quote

Step 2

Reveal your van insurance policies

Step 3
