Strange but true

Ice cream anyone?

Some rather bizarre stories for you this week involving vans. First up – an ice cream van driver stopped by police near junction 2 on the M60 tested positive for cannabis when they asked him to do a saliva test. After the test, the driver was taken into custody. Nothing was mentioned about the ice cream van but hopefully, the contents were legitimate and handed over as evidence before they melted.

Don’t play chicken with HGVs

In Turkey, a van driver escaped with his life after being hit by an HGV. Waiting at the intersection along with other vehicles, the van pulled away ahead of other traffic (we wonder if he was a bit impatient?) Unfortunately for him, the HGV coming in the opposite direction was unable to manoeuvre out of the way or brake in time to stop and instead hit the cab, full on. Miraculously, the driver rolled away from the accident and got up, apparently uninjured, although he was taken to the hospital to be examined. Perhaps he has learned the hard way that he needs to be more patient and vigilant when driving. We aren’t really sure what he will be driving though, as his van was a complete write-off.

YouTube

We have mentioned previously folks driving vans without proper insurance, MOT, or a licence. Here’s another one of those foolish people. The A50 in Derbyshire is a pretty busy road with a speed limit of 70mph. Whilst you might be forgiven for thinking this was going to be yet another one of those speeding stories, it isn’t. Instead, the driver was doing around 40mph which caught the eye of the local constabulary.

The police report, later on, stated the driver was observed watching YouTube on his tablet whilst driving (hence why he was doing 40mph, probably thinking that was safer). When stopped, the driver then attempted to give false details. Upon checking, the police found the vehicle to be without insurance and the driver without a licence. Needless to say, he didn’t get to finish whatever it was he was watching on YouTube.
